Prayer Matters June 2026
06.01.26 | Prayer Matters | by Tyler Dunham
My name is Tyler Dunham. I was raised in a deeply rooted Christian family in a small farm town in central Ohio. Faith in God, discipline, and service were foundational values. I came from a long line of service in the military, and I felt a strong calling to serve my country too. I did so by enlisting in the United States Army after graduating High School.
While in the Army, I served four years as a Small Arms Repairman and completed a one-year deployment to Afghanistan. During that time, I experienced firsthand the power of prayer. My family and church congregation prayed daily for my safety and for the unit I served alongside. The Bible was my guide as well as prayer. In moments of uncertainty, verses like Joshua 1:9 reminded me to be strong and courageous, knowing the Lord was with me wherever I was sent.
It was during my military deployment that my faith in God and my prayer life grew exponentially stronger. In an environment filled with uncertainty, I came to rely more and more fully on God, not just in moments of fear, but in daily life. I also realized that I always had the Armor of God with me, and I wore around my neck a constant reminder of Ephesians 6:11 to daily put on the full armor of God and stand firm.
That season solidified my knowledge that faith isn’t just something we get by being raised in a faithful family. I know now that my faith is a blessing of the Holy Spirit and something I live out as I follow Jesus. Passages like Psalm 144:1, which speaks to the Lord preparing our hands for battle became real to me during my time in service and sticks with me today.
Today, I carry my Christian faith and values into life as a father of four daughters and as a professional in the Naples community. My gratitude to God and my faith guide how I lead my family, serve others, and navigate life with purpose, integrity, and trust in God. I lean on verses like Philippians 4:13 (I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me) as a daily reminder that my strength comes from Christ.
Best regards,
Tyler Dunham
